Red Bull Switchboard is an event where 500 college students are invited to participate in an action sports driven day in Southern California. That day is this weekend, March 16, 2013, and participants will be surfing in the morning and snowboarding in the afternoon.
Students from San Diego, Orange County, and Los Angeles will begin the day surfing at Huntington Beach and La Jolla Shores alongside professional surfer Jamie Sterling. Sterling grew up on the North Shore and was surrounded by big wave riding his whole life. He was a major player in Red Bull’s Big Wave Africa event and received an invite in 2001 at the age of 19. He has traveled around the world to track down the biggest swells and constantly searches for the world’s best wave.
After riding the big waves, participants will take a two-hour journey up to Bear Mountain for an afternoon on the slopes with professional snowboarder John Jackson. Jackson was hailed as a teen prodigy for his park and pipe finesse and won US Nationals as well as competed on the world circuit. He took his shredding skills to the backcountry and has been on the world’s biggest, steepest, sketchiest geological formations performing freestyle moves that others have trouble with even on neatly groomed parks.
The Red Bull Switchboard ticket includes breakfast in Huntington Beach, private bus transportation to Big Bear Mountain, lift ticket, discounted ski or snowboard rental, and private bus transportation back to Huntington Beach. Individuals must register with a valid college E-mail address.
It’s going to be a beautiful day to partake of some big waves and sweet skiing/snowboarding. From swimsuits and water to thermals and snow, Red Bull Switchboard is a great way to put those books aside for a day so you can soak in some sun, shred on the snow and have an epic experience with pro athletes and fellow college students. Get your tickets now as there are only a few left.
