Red Bull Rampage 2014: Who will reign as big-mountain freeride king this year?

Red Bull Rampage, the only big-mountain freeride competition, is summoned again for 2014 in Virgin, Utah on September 26-28. The world’s most skillful and daring competitors will return to the crumbling ridges, massive drops and technical topography on the beautiful yet treacherous terrain of Southern Utah.

Last year Kyle Strait became the first two-time Red Bull Rampage champion as he combined a fluid and quick style at the top with a huge technical no-hander off the signature Oakley Icon Sender feature, dropping over 70-feet and landing clean. Cam Zink earned the Utah Sports Commission Best Trick award with his jaw-dropping backflip off the Oakley Icon Sender, a trick that he had been planning for months and required him to build his own kicker ramp to get the angle needed to attempt it. He pulled the 78-foot backflip flawlessly and the crowd went wild after he landed the death-defying stunt. And as if that wasn’t enough added adrenaline to the already pumped-up crowd, Kelly McGarry did a backflip over the insane 73-foot canyon gap, and then stuck the rest of his line with a corked-out flip up high that put him in second place.

Some of the biggest moments the sport has ever seen were unleashed at last year’s Red Bull Rampage, so who knows what will be in store for the crowd for the 2014 Rampage. It’s going to be hard to top, but as in previous years, it is certain not to disappoint. Tickets will be released for sale on August 13, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. MT here. You are required to bring your printed tickets as there is no cell service, and they will not be available at the venue. Tickets are good for site access on competition days which are Friday, September 26 and Sunday, September 28. Saturday is athlete practice day, so no public access will be allowed. Follow @RedBullSLC on Instagram and @RedBullBIKE on Twitter for real-time updates.

Spectators need to take into consideration that the event is not for casual observers. The contest site is a 4-mile hike/bike ride from Highway 9 and Camino Del Rio St. There are no shuttles to and from the contest site. You are required to check your bike at the on-site bike valet once you reach the contest venue if you ride. There are no exceptions. No motorized vehicles are allowed. There are designated viewing areas for spectators at the base of the course near the finish line. No pets are allowed. Make sure you pack plenty of water, snacks, sunscreen, extra layers of clothing, basic first-aid gear, and a flashlight/headlamp. SOL Foods will be on-site selling food and water as well.

Red Bull Rampage Finals will be broadcast live on redbull.com on September 28, 2014. The 90-minute event recap will air on NBC as part of the Red Bull Signature Series on November 30, 2014 at 9:30 a.m. PT/12:30 p.m. ET.
