Most of materials that exist in the modern world used water somewhere in the process of getting into your hand. For example,
- Each gallon of gasoline per week requires 1,000 gallons of water to produce.
- Each can of soda requires 29,000 gallons of water to produce.
- Each newspaper requires 66,000 gallons of water to produce.
Any manufacturing plants need to use a lot of water in their processes and transportation(delivery to warehouse, delivery to the manufactures to the store, transportation to stores and to home use gas which was produced by using water in their facilities, garbage truck…). Electricity companies also use a lot of water to produce electricity.
So if you can eliminate one little thing; for example, drinking from reusable containers instead of drinking from water bottles (when you remembered or if it is all the time it is even better), that might be a little one things that we can do. If we recycle any products that are recyclable, then you are not only reducing waste and increasing product life, but also you are ended up saving water. Even turning off lights that are not in use saves water.
So when you are driving, throwing trash away, or even shopping, just think of water that you can save. Conserving water is not stop at saving water by taking shower instead of bath. Indirect uses of water also add up quickly.
