Recycled Percussion rocks Las Vegas (Photos)

The Imperial Inn is no more. From the ashes (well dust) The Quad Resort and Casino is forming. Like the phoenix of legend the Quad Resort and Casino has started a rebirth of sorts.

The Quad Resort and Casino isn’t just changing the physical aspects of the hotel, but the whole attitude of the property. What better way to do that, than to bring in a high energy, in your face type of headliner?

March 14, 2013 was the day The Quad celebrated the grand opening of Recycled Percussion show, with a celebrity filled red carpet. Customers of The Quad were either enjoying the Dealertainers (card dealers dressed like celebrities) or taking photos of the fantastic flair the bartenders were serving drinks. (The bartenders were pretty impressive.)

With all the action going on, the crowds still became distracted as professional photographers lined up near the step and repeat (red carpet). As the celebrities started to appear the crowds formed around the professional photographers to get a cell phone photo of a celebrity.

The celebrities showed up in droves with anticipation to see what Recycled Percussion had in store for them. Recycled Percussion, who are known worldwide for their high-energy junkyard rock performances on America’s Got Talent, are also a Las Vegas favorite.

The crowds became excited as Carrot Top walked the red carpet. Carrot Top played the air drums as he posed for the cameras. Another fan favorite was the 2011 Playboy Playmate of the Year and star of the Las Vegas show PIN UP Claire Sinclair.

MTV and VH1 reality stars Ricardo Laguna from the Ricardo Laguna Project and Daisy De La Hoya from Daisy of Love also showed up to support Recycled Percussion.

Many Las Vegas entertainers also showed up to support Recycled Percussion. Shows like Vegas! The Show, Rock of Ages, The Evil Dead the Musical, Anthony Cools, Frank Marino and his cast of Divas Las Vegas, and even Zowie Bowie and many more showed up to welcome Recycled Percussion back to the Las Vegas Strip.

The crowds began buzz when rock legends Tracii Guns, (LA Guns and Guns n’ Roses), John Payne, (Asia) and Paul Shortino (Rough Cutt, Quiet Riot) and several other cast members of the new Las Vegas show Raiding the Rock Vault hit the carpet to pose for photos.

The crowd was excited and primed for the grand entrance of Recycled Percussion. Instead they got four ladies dressed in recycled clothing. I mean really recycled clothing such as newspaper and tin foil and other recycled products. The crowd seemed to be ok with sexy ladies wearing junk.

The sexy ladies were just a distraction, as Recycled Percussion made their way to the red carpet dressed in monkey masks. The junkyard rockers posed in several comedic positions such as the social grooming pose as well as the monkey love pose. They couldn’t stay on the red carpet monkeying around forever. They were ushered to the showroom for the big night.

Upon entry to the showroom you need an instrument. Lucky for you they provide this. It can be a valve cover, a pot, or a plastic bucket. Next they give you a drumstick. As you can imagine it is quite loud in the showroom before the show. Everyone is learning to play his or her instruments. It never fails, one sibling tells another to put the pan on their head. (Flashback to my older brother telling me things.)

The popular song Renegade by Styx starts to play and the crowd goes silent. As the music kicks in Recycled Percussion makes their grand entrance inverted playing on the junk made drum kits they are known for. (Watch the children’s faces in the crowd as their smiles extend ear to ear as the junk rockers make their way towards the stage.)

Recycled Percussion is introduced to the audience; Matt Bowman plays some mean licks on his guitar while sliding around on his knees. The prankster, Todd Griffen who is also the DJ hypes the crowd, and then there is Ryan Vezina who runs to the crowd while twirling drum sticks. Not to be out done by Ryan, Justin Spencer leaps high into the air off his drum set and does a few tricks of his own with his drum sticks.

After the introduction is a unique and quite interesting comedy skit, which includes junk, percussion instruments, and cups. Not only does this skit amaze the crowd but it keeps the crowd laughing as well.

The room goes dark and a familiar song starts. Eleanor Rigby by the Beatles starts to play. The dubstep remix of Eleanor Rigby is accompanied by unique instruments, sparks fly as Recycled Percussion plays accompaniment to the song with disc grinders.

By this time in the show the crowd is hooked on the adrenaline rush of this high energy out of the box type of show that Recycled Percussion is known for. This is also only the first ten minutes of the show.

If you followed Recycled Percussion on America’s Got Talent you are familiar with the junk rockers van. I thought I was too, but everything in the show is new. Recycled Percussion has taken a great show and made it even better. The routine with the van was just phenomenal. I wasn’t sure how they would make it new and different but they sure did find a way.

I don’t want to give away the show. But I will say this only show in history to have random cookie time. So I suggest if you get a chance, round up the family and check out this earth shaking power percussion thrill ride known as Recycled Percussion. It is a show that truly has something for everyone.
