The Salt Lake Valley Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore is located at 1276 S 500 W in Salt Lake City.
Styled as a home improvement thrift store, the ReStore accepts donations of home building supplies, appliances and furniture.
“In about a year, the ReStore will cover all cost items against Habitat for Humanity,” says Ed Blake, executive director for the Salt Lake Valley Habitat for Humanity. “That means that all donations will go through to the families.”
Because of the nature of the thrift store business, the items available at the ReStore change every day. Among the items that shoppers may find are lighting fixtures, refrigerators, armoires, tiles, doors and windows.
Donations of both new and used items are common. Builders donate items after a job is done because it becomes too expensive to warehouse them. People making home improvements will also donate the items that they are replacing.
According to Ed, the ReStore “keeps tens of thousands of tons” of materials out of the landfill every year, and the proceeds from the sales support the mission of Habitat for Humanity.
Those who wish to donate items may drop them off at the ReStore or have them picked up. Donations are tax deductible.
