Tourist towns such as New Orleans can be a challenge for recyclers. After all, you have drunk frat boys from New York throwing beer bottles along Bourbon and even moms from Baton Rouge dumping paper cups out of the car.
But natives and new-to-towners know that without recycling responsibly, creating a green(er) world - or at least city - is impossible. So here are a few places to get started in case your block is not currently up on the latest ways and places to recycle:
- Phoenix Recycling: at 322 Lafayette St., #200 in NOLA - call 504-322-7551. They offer residential and commercial recycling in St. Tammany, Orleans and Jefferson parishes, with St. Charles coming soon. Phoenix offers curbside recycling. Click here for a route and schedule.
- Southern Recycling: at 902 Julia Street in New Orleans (call 504-636-7200) will recycle all your metals and electronics. They are considered one of the the premier metal recyclers in the Gulf region.
- Uptown Recycling is at 1320 South Claiborne Ave. in NOLA (504-584-9082) and also at 2801 Earhart Blvd. (504-523-8485). Call for more information.
- Poland Scrap Metal, and Belle Chasse Scrap Metal Recycling at 1741 Poland Ave. in NOLA (504-942-1479) touts that it's a leader in recycling paper, plastic and metal.
- Catalytic Converter Recycling at 5229 St. Claude Ave. offers another type of recycling, should you need to recycle your catalytic converter. (504 944-7733).
