With Michigan's economy still treading water and the price of produce skyrocketing, my household has decided to start a garden this year in order to save a little money and still eat well.  In preparation, we bought some seeds to start.  In order to save a little more money, I decided to convert some egg cartons into seed starter trays.  It provides drainage and even has a tray to catch drips.  The project is quick, easy, and free!

Styrofoam egg carton trays are not otherwise recyclable, so this is a great project for reusing them.  If you use a paper-based egg carton, the moisture will help break down the paper.  Use scissors to separate the cups into individual units and you can plant them directly in the ground as with peat pots.

There are many of us who think Michigan is a great place to live and visit. For what it is worth the economy is slowly rebounding, not in the toilet as you suggest

While things may be slowly looking up, I still no far too many people with nothing in their pockets but lint, who still struggle to make ends meet on part-time, minimum wage jobs that they feel lucky to have. The darkest hour may be just before dawn, but I'm still clinging to my flashlight, as are many others.
