Recreational Kayaking in Idaho

As I look out my window and see snow, I am thinking about being on the calm water in my kayak on a warm summer day. Most people think kayaking is for big whitewater on a roaring river, but there is also recreational kayaking. This is a much more relaxing type of kayaking that anyone can do. Just get a kayak and put it into a lake or calm part of a river and off you go. Paddle at your own pace and enjoy the peace and quiet and beauty of the river.

There is a beautiful place to go in southern Idaho called Balanced Rock State Park. You can launch from the campground and go one and a quarter miles up a wide stream and see some wonderful scenery, have lunch and just enjoy the day. There are otters that will come out and say hi and there are deer that live along the creek too. The water is about ten feet deep and you can see the bottom in the crystal clear water.

To get to the park, take Hwy 93 N from Twin Falls and turn right on E 3700 N rd, go 18.2 miles and you will see the sign for the park on your left. There is lots of parking and picnic tables and restrooms.
