Recreational boating safety council seeks new members (Video)

The National Boating Safety Advisory Council needs new members. The council advises the Coast Guard on recreational and other boating safety matters.

The Coast Guard is taking applications for membership until March 11. For details, see http://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/FR-2013-01-09/html/2013-00215.htm.

The council includes 21 members: seven representing state boating safety agencies, seven from the boating industry (including vessel and equipment manufacturers), five representing national boating organizations and two representing the public or boating groups.

The council meets at least biannually at various locations.

It seeks to fill the seven positions that expire at the end of 2013. These positions include two state officials, three manufacturers, and two from national boating groups.

Anyone who applied last year need not apply again; the Coast Guard will reconsider these applications.

Members receive no compensation except travel and per diem expenses.

Applicants should have experience and expertise in the area they wish to represent. Registered lobbyists are not eligible.
