Record yellow perch caught by Grovetown man Savannah River

Perch, darters, sauger and walleye are all of the same family. They have a golden yellow body and six to eight vertical bands from back to belly. The Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ Wildlife Resources Division reports a two-pound nine-ounce yellow perch caught by Thomas Lewis of Grovetown in Columbia County on the Savannah River February 27, 16.5 inches, beats the record held on Lake Burton and in 2008 a perch by the same weight was caught.

In some areas yellow perch are not known as a gamefish but more of a panfish and are great for eating.
