Record October rains; many locations over 10 inches

October- typically one of the driest months of the year across the state will go down as one of  the wettest months of October in history in many locations, with widespread rainfall amounts over 10 inches!

While most areas experienced well above normal rainfall for the month of October, portions of Western and Northern Mississippi were particularly hard hit with excessive rainfall amounts near and over 15 inches.

As a result, many locations including the cities of Tupelo, Greenville, and Vicksburg broke rainfall records for the month.

The capital city (Jackson) recorded its 3rd wettest October in history with 9.80 inches of rainfall, only falling short from the top wettest October by less than an inch. (October record 10.58" in 1918)

Non-record rainfall amounts over 10 inches:

Belzoni 14.09"
Centreville 13.23"
Canton 11.79"
Aberdeen 11.53"
Greenwood 11.33"
Clarksdale 11.25"
Enid Dam 11.10"
Crystal Springs 10.50"
Water Valley 10.42"
Goshen Springs 10.17"
Sledge 10.07"

This is the 2nd month in a row in which parts of the state have experienced record and or historic rainfalls.

Record rainfall fell during the month of September, mainly across Northern Mississippi with many locations surpassing 10 inches of rainfall in which is also considered as one of the driest months of year across the state.

The very wet and unsettled weather patterns the state and the South have been experiencing will likely continue through the Winter Season, due in part to El Nino.
