Record heat, freezing temperatures large hail and a tornado top the list of Michigan weather events on this day in history. From the National Weather Service and Storm Prediction Center (SPC) archives here are the events that happened on August 13.

1947 - The temperatures reached 94° on the 12th and 96° on the 13th in Flint. In Alpena temperatures reached 97° on the 12th and 95° on the 13th. For Sault Ste. Marie the temperatures reached 91° on the 11th, 93° on the 12th and 91° on the 13th.

1975 - A 60 mph wind gust accompanied a severe thunderstorm just after dawn at 6:45am in Genesee County.

1992 - A record low temperature of 34° at Weather Forecast Office in Marquette, the coldest temperature ever for that early in the season. An observer in Chassell reported a low temperature of 29°.

1993 - Winds gusted to 63 mph at the Drummond Island Municipal Airport when a gusty severe thunderstorm wind blew across the Island in the early afternoon. No damage was reported.

2002 - Severe weather produces widespread wind damage across southwest Lower Michigan. A tornado struck near Rockford in Kent County, causing minor damage to several homes and vehicles. 2010 - A cold front moving across the region triggered several severe thunderstorms over western Upper Michigan in the evening. A tree fell down on Chaney Lake Road 8 miles southwest of Dunham and a tree was blown down on power lines 1 mile southeast of Ironwood. Multiple trees were blown down on Highway US-2 between Wakefield and Marenisco.
