Record gun ownership, record low crime

AP Photo/Josh Anderson

The emotional anti-gun hysterics of the left always absurdly insist that fewer restrictions on law-abiding gun owners will lead to more crime. But those of us who realize that most gun crimes are committed by those with illegally-acquired weapons know this is blatantly erroneous on its face.

In fact, as gun laws have been dramatically loosened across the country and citizens have armed themselves more than ever before, crime has gone down, as the FBI recently confirmed.

From the NRA:

Last week, the FBI issued its preliminary 2009 crime report, showing that the number of murders in the first half of 2009 decreased 10 percent compared to the first half of 2008. If the trend holds for the remainder of 2009, it will be the single greatest one-year decrease in the number of murders since at least 1960...

...For the better part of the last 15 months, firearms, ammunition, and 'large' ammunition magazines have been sold in what appear to be record quantities.

The wackadoo left will never get it. They are stuck on controlling our wallets, controlling guns, they are so controlling you could call them Fascists and it would be accurate.

The inherent problem with your take on this, of course, is your usual trope about everything being the DEMMYCRATS' fault. When things go wrong, like someone trying to light their underwear on fire on a plane, it's the evil work of Reid, Pelosi, and Obama. When things go well (from your point of view), how is it that avoid attributing it to DA EVIL GUBMENT?

Ryan: "But I thought Obama was going to trample on everyone's right to own a firearm..."

So, because Obama hasn't annihilated the ENTIRE Constitution all at once, he must not be trampling our rights at all?

    Nice logic.

Hint: Things might compute better if you tried actually REASONING.

Noticing that we went 7 years without a single terrorist attack on our soil only to turn around and fail over and over again to stop ANYTHING the moment Obama takes over and starts his war on the CIA...is falsely blaming Democrats?

    Um...sure.

And as I sit here trying to decipher your unintelligible blather into coherent English, show me what government program caused crime to drop so dramatically.

For those who want to defend the Dem's. One needs only to listen to the campaign promises of the Left Wing Dems's of their intention to to disarm all private citizens. They truly believe that we are not intelegent enough to defend ourselves without harming others.

Pathetic. Do you people honestly think it's ONLY the democrats who are trying to destroy our Constitution and Bill of Rights? It's both sides, my friends! The Dems and Reps have their differences .. and it's just a show really .. but when it comes down to it, both sides are working against the best interests of American citizens. Yes, gun control is a bunch of BS .. and I'm buying more guns myself. I am a former democrat turned independent. But I've alwaya known one thing .. in the end .. both parties want to take the guns out of our law abiding citizens hands. Why? Because if we're unarmed ... what are we goingt o do when the neo US govt decides to steamroll us and destroy the middle class .. and basically turn us into a fascist nation? We're defensless then. So don't think .. not for one second .. that the reps don't want to take our guns from us as well. They know an unarmed nation is a defenseless nation. Only cops and soldiers alone will eventually be the only ones strapped.

Notice since getting in that Obama hasn't raised a finger against gun rights. In fact, he even signed a bill letting guns into national parks! A law passed by a Congress that is overwhelmingly Democratically controlled.

Bush has a Republican congress for 6 years and couldn’t get a law passed allowing guns in parks.

Heavily Republican East Tennessee where I live, the pure Republican city government just outlawed guns in local parks after the state legislature allowed guns, and the Democratic Governor signed it into law.

Gun owners need to wise up. Republicans aren’t your friends.

The responsible ones keep them CONCEALED, for sports hunting, and in their homes for protection. The old saying of "Keep the criminals off the streets, and in jail"....still hold true. The ones using the weapons on the streets, are usually the criminals! Robin Dimaio N.Y.C.

You guys who are saying Obama hasn't done anything to infringe on our gun rights are simply ignorant... unless you don't consider back-door ammunition bans to be an attack on gun rights. Don't know what I'm talking about? You haven't done your research -- so no more idiotic claims about Obama until you do.

I think this guy has a great idea....

Vermont State Rep. Fred Maslack has read the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, as well as Vermont 's own Constitution very carefully, and his strict interpretation of these documents is popping some eyeballs in New England and elsewhere.

Maslack recently proposed a bill to register "non-gun-owners" and require them to pay a $500 fee to the state. Thus Vermont would become the first state to require a permit for the luxury of going about unarmed and assess a fee of $500 for the privilege of not owning a gun.

Maslack read the "militia" phrase of the Second Amendment as not only affirming the right of the individual citizen to bear arms, but as a clear mandate to do so. He believes that universal gun ownership was advocated by the Framers of the Constitution as an antidote to a "monopoly of force" by the government as well as criminals.

    Part II

Vermont 's constitution states explicitly that "the people have a right to bear arms for the defense of themselves and the State" and those persons who are "conscientiously scrupulous of bearing arms" shall be required to "pay such equivalent." Clearly, says Maslack, Vermonters have a constitutional obligation to arm themselves, so that they are capable of responding to "any situation that may arise."

Under the bill, adults who choose not to own a firearm would be required to register their name, address, Social Security Number, and driver's license number with the state. "There is a legitimate government interest in knowing who is not prepared to defend the state should they be asked to do so," Maslack says.

Vermont already boasts a high rate of gun ownership along with the least restrictive laws of any state .. it's currently the only state that allows a citizen to carry a concealed firearm without a permit. This combination of plenty of guns and few la

When Obama signed Executive order 12425 just before Christmas did anyone notice? When the bill named for the kid who got killed in Il. gets signed when it is included with some other laws will anyone notice? When you notice, it will because you are being personally affected by these and other "done in the dark" deals. Then it will be too late. When you understand what belonging to groups like the WORLD COUNCIL of FOREIGN RELATION, or ONE WORLD ORDER, or WORLD BANKERS ORGANISATION, or BILDERBERGERS means, it will too late. It is not just one party or the other, it is both. They have been bought and paid for by these organisations and it is just a show when they run against each other for office, the person that wins has already been bought. We need to choose those who run, note just vote for those who choose to run, you can not trust their motives. Anyone can be bought or threatened. We must clean both houses and insist on term limits. AND WE MUST DO IT STARTING NOW!

Where's the data on accidental shootings...as gun laws were loosened, how many more were accidentally shot?
