Record cold and "white-out" conditions top the list of Michigan weather events on this day in history. From the National Weather Service archives here are the events that happened on February 24.
1894 - A temperature of -11.2° set a record low for the day in Detroit and -26° in Sault Ste. Marie.
1988 - Strong winds produced snow squalls in the Great Lakes Region which created "white-out" conditions in eastern Upper Michigan. Squalls produced up to 14 inches of snow in Geauga County of northeastern Ohio. (The National Weather Summary) (Storm Data)
1989 - Temperatures fall below zero as a late season blast of arctic air moves in. Grand Rapids falls to a record -9° and Muskegon hits -2°, just missing the record of -3° set in 1924.
