1869 - The wood schooner Grey Eagle, while carrying lumber, was down bound for Lake Michigan when she grounded on Whitefish Point on Lake Superior and was heavily damaged in a storm. Declared a total loss on July 17th, the hulk was destroyed by arson on September 20th.

1895 - Record cold temperatures occur on the second consecutive day at Lansing. The low of 39° follows a low of 42° on July 9th. Detroit observes a record low of 51° on this day.

1897 - A ten day heat wave, one of the most intense on record, peaked with highs near 100° across the region. At Lansing, it was the third straight day with highs of 100°, unprecedented in the record books.

1898 - The temperature dropped to 40° in Saginaw. It was the second coldest temperature on record for the month. The coldest is 39°. Grand Rapids dips to a record low of 45° on this day and later ties this record in 1963.

1980 - A 71 mph wind gust was reported at the Ford Airport in Iron Mountain in the early evening from a severe thunderstorm.

1992 - The cold summer continued. A record cold high temperature of 61° was set at Weather Forecast Office in Marquette.

1996 - Cool weather prevails with Muskegon setting a record low temperature of 44°.

2007 - An intense low pressure center moving over Lake Superior helped spawn severe thunderstorms over Dickinson and Marquette counties in the afternoon. An eight inch diameter poplar tree was blown down 4 miles north of Felch. Non-thunderstorm wind damage was also reported over Gogebic and Houghton counties with power knocked out in Ironwood. Large branches were blown down near Ironwood and Bessemer. Power lines were blown down in Wakefield. An eighteen inch diameter tree was blown down near the high school in Calumet at 1501 EST.
