Record breaking jail time for man bludgeoning his dog to death with golf club

Breaking News:

Matthew George, 44, has been sentenced with justice prevailing. He has received the harshest punishment ever for an animal cruelty crime.

George was given a 28 month imprisonment for bludgeoning his pit bull to death, using a golf club.

He has also been permanently banned from ever owning a dog again.

In Chicago, such cases do not receive harsh sentences, nor do they in Columbus, Ohio.

Last week, reports came forward in 2 breaking news cases of animal abuse.

One, was a Cicero woman who had hoarded 81 cats in her residence. All 81 cats had to be killed by animal control, while the city of Cicero will not be pressing any charges or issuing any citations. In fact, they are using clean-up crews to clean her residence while she stays with family and friends.

In Columbus, Peter Bower, age 31, was revealed to have allegedly been engaging in acts of beastiality (zoophilia) while Ohio lawmakers scrambled and scratched their heads after they realized that there was no animal cruelty law on the books for such horrific acts. The man is alleged to have had sex with 3 dogs and one horse, possess zoophilia paranalia and blow-up sheep sex toys.

Across the pond in New Zealand, reporters have entitled articles in their morning editions as "Animal Cruelty: Justice Served".

The sentencing of Matthew George was New Zealand's harshest to date, after a groundbreaking amendment was introduced to Parliament as a Private Member's Bill.

New Zealand passed the bill, and made amendments to their Animal Welfare Act last year.

Sun-Live reports that the amendment was necessary for "such harsh acts of animal cruelty."

Preceding George with a lengthy sentence was the case of a 19 year old man, Jeffrey Hurring, who was prosecuted for killing his dog. Hurring had imposed death on his Jack Russell by pouring diesel fuel down it's throat, lighting it on fire, and hitting the dog repeatedly over the head.

Hurring was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment.

One blogger, under the name of "writerman" expressed his feeling's in New Zealand's open format blog stating, "I think more attention should be paid to the even more worrying side of these sorts of attacks. We should be aware that most serial killers begin their careers by torturing and killing animals, so sentencing should take that aspect into account and ensure a comprehensive psych evaluation of the culprit with appropriate treatment and monitoring is also part of the sentence."
