Recognizing that doggy breath and its causes

Do you love to hug and kiss those doggy lips and have a closeness with your dog, only to fall over from the doggy breath? That unpleasant odor emitted from its mouth comes from a long period of neglect in oral care, something your pet cannot do on its own. But it is never too late. Anything and everything you would need to care for your dog’s oral hygiene can be found at your local Rockford-area Petsmart or Petco as listed below or one closest to your home. The staff can also assist in steps to take in brushing the teeth and advise on the proper tools to do so.

To ward off that offensive doggy odor of the mouth, it is important to brush the teeth weekly if not daily. Not only the staff at your local pet supply store but your personal veterinarian or dog groomer will be happy to demonstrate the procedure to you, for the health and happiness of your dog.

Along with a lack of proper oral care, there are other multiple reasons why your dog develops that overpowering doggy breath. Causes could be abnormalities in the mouth that includes an inflammation of the gums, bone, hair or other foreign object stuck in the mouth, abscessed teeth, tumors of the mouth and oral ulcers. Another concern may be kidney failure and lung tumors. If you do practice good oral hygiene, yet your dog has a foul smell coming from its mouth, consult your veterinarian to rule out any of the possible medical or other underlying issues.

Keep up a regular routine of brushing your dog’s teeth and follow a healthy diet of dry dog food as recommended by your vet to guarantee good oral hygiene. In between brushings, provide your pet with many chew toys, safe bones and dental chews. Doing so can keep the teeth and gums in tiptop shape.
