The 26th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Breakfast will be held January 21st at the Sheraton Greensboro at Four Seasons/Koury Convention Center. The breakfast starts at 7:30am and is hosted by the Greensboro Human Relations Commission. The theme for 2013 is “Reclaim Your Dream.” Cost for this event is $20.
This annual breakfast honors the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his contributions to human rights. As a civil rights activist, King had a tremendous impact on race relations in America. The activist played a pivotal role in ending legal segregation, and garnering peace and equality amongst all people.
The keynote speaker for this event is statesman, activist and author, Kweisi Mfume. Mfume is the former CEO and President of the NAACP and served five terms as a Maryland Democratic Congressman. He received his education from John Hopkins and Morgan State universities.
The invocation will be given by Anthony Knotts. The unity prayer and benediction will be given by Andy Koren. Specials guests will be Josephus Thompson III, LaShon R. Hill and Ben L. Smith High School Gospel Choir.
Greensboro’s Human Relations Department is seeking sponsors for this event and will be recognizing outstanding community leaders who embody the spirit of King’s dream and outstanding community service for the 2013 Human Relations Award.
