Cats can become endangered species near Halloween, as has been shared in several of the Halloween safety tips 2013 articles recently published. As a quick reminder, keep your cat(s) indoors for the next few days, just to stay on the safe side of things. While that may not be your cat’s meow, below you will find a recipe for calico kitty cookies that are certain to be the cat’s meow for everyone lucky enough to partake of them.
One of the best things about these feisty calico felines is they can be baked fast using refrigerated dough. You will be able to serve 24 in just under 2 hours, including the 55 minutes of prep time.
1 roll (16.5 oz) refrigerated chocolate chip cookies
2/3 cup pecan halves (48)
1/3 cup candy-coated chocolate pieces (72)
48 thin pretzel sticks (each 2 ½ inches long), halved
- Place cookie dough in freezer for a minimum of 1 hour
- Preheat oven to 350ᵒ F
- Cut cookie dough into 24 slices
- On ungreased cookie sheets, place slices 3 inches apart. For ears, press 2 pecan halves onto top of each cookie, overlapping edge of cookie. For eyes and nose, press in candy pieces. For whiskers, place 2 pretzel pieces on each side of nose; press in slightly.
- Bake 11 – 13 minutes or until golden brown. Cool 1 minute, remove from cookie sheets to cooling racks.
