A Shamrock cocktail is a simple, easy to make drink made with Irish whiskey, French vermouth, green Chartreuse and crème de menthe. Traditionally served in a chilled cocktail glass, the Shamrock cocktail is also wonderful served in a short cocktail or sours glass half-filled with crushed ice. This recipe makes one Shamrock cocktail, though you can easily double or triple the recipe in the same cocktail shaker if you are making drinks for friends or party guests.
Ingredients and Tools:
2 oz. Irish whiskey
2 oz. French vermouth
2 dashes green Chartreuse
2 dashes crème de menthe
Chilled cocktail glass
Lemon peel, for garnish
Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with crushed ice.
Add the Irish whiskey, French vermouth, green Chartreuse and green crème de menthe to the cocktail shaker.
Cover the cocktail shaker and shake gently for 15 to 20 seconds.
Strain the contents of the cocktail shaker into a chilled cocktail glass.
Garnish the drink with a twisted lemon peel and serve immediately.
If you want to make a sweeter cocktail, try adding one-half teaspoon of lemon or plain simple syrup to the cocktail shaker right before serving.
