Recipe: Make fresh bruschetta for an easy appetizer

Here is a simple and well-liked recipe for an appetizer that will make parties and special occasions easy to handle. Using just a few staple kitchen ingredients, you can make bruschetta quickly and enjoy a healthful starter that is not deep-fried or oozing with cheese. This recipe will serve approximately 4-6 people.


  • 1/4 cup sweet Italian basil, fresh and sliced into ribbons (chiffonade)
  • 1/2 small white onion, minced
  • 1/2 small red onion, minced
  • 3-4 Roma tomatoes, seeds removed and diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, finely minced
  • 1/2 lemon, juice only
  • 2 tsps balsamic vinegar, dark
  • 2 Tbsps extra virgin olive oil
  • garlic salt, to taste
  • pepper, to taste
  • 2 French baguettes, sliced and toasted


  1. Prepare vegetables (dice, chop, and mince) and place in a bowl.
  2. Carefully mix together with lemon juice, balsamic vinegar, and olive oil. Tomatoes can lose a lot of juice if you mix together too roughly.
  3. Season to taste with garlic salt and pepper.
  4. Slice into baguettes and drizzle slices with olive oil.
  5. Toast to a crunchy brown.
  6. Top with bruschetta mix.
