An ideal cocktail is a gin based drink made with dry gin, Italian vermouth, maraschino liqueur and grapefruit juice. This recipe makes one ideal cocktail, though you can make two or three drinks in the same large cocktail shaker if you have guests.
2 oz. dry gin
1 oz. dry Italian vermouth
2 dashes maraschino liqueur
1 tbsp. grapefruit juice
Chilled martini glass
Lemon slice, for garnish
Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with crushed ice.
Add the dry gin, Italian vermouth, maraschino liqueur and grapefruit juice to the cocktail shaker.
Cover the cocktail shaker and shake very gently for 10 to 15 seconds. Don’t shake too hard; you’ll bruise the gin.
Strain the contents of the cocktail shaker into a chilled martini glass.
Garnish the drink with a fresh lemon slice and serve right away.
For a bit more natural fruit flavor, try adding one-half ounce of freshly squeezed lemon juice to the drink before mixing.
If you want to give the drink an extra kick, add a dash of absinthe to the drink right before serving.
