Every year around the holidays do you find yourself putting eggnog in your shopping cart, and later on wondering what in the world you're going to do with it? Let's be honest...for most of us, one glass of this super-rich holiday beverage is more than enough right? That means the chances are pretty good that you'll have at least one serving left in the carton that nobody wants! So what can you do with the eggnog that you can't get anybody to drink? Well, you could just pour it down the drain, or, you could try cooking with it instead!
There are lots of ways to cook with eggnog. Here is a smart and delicious idea for using up leftover eggnog that your family will love, and it's perfect for Christmas morning breakfast!
Eggnog French Toast
1 loaf day-old French or Italian bread, cut into 1-inch slices
1 cup eggnog
1/4 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
Vegetable oil for frying
Lightly oil a large frying pan and heat to medium-high. In a medium bowl, whisk together eggs and eggnog. Sprinkle with nutmeg. Pour egg mixture into a shallow bowl (a pie pan works great for this). Dip bread slices into bowl; coating both sides with egg mixture. Fry bread slices, a few pieces at a time, until golden brown. Serve warm, sprinkled with powdered sugar, or with the syrup of your choice.
