Since the weather is all Clevelanders ever write or talk about, I thought we should rethink our topic of discussion and talk about having a Super Bowl party. Now I realize some women are thinking, “are you nuts?”
But let’s be serious. How about a party this Sunday? And who really cares what teams are playing…as long as there’s food, right? Well, that’s right up my alley and I have some great ideas for appetizers to serve for your friends and family.
First, I have to tell you about this awesome baked Brie with caramelized garlic that I had in California a few weeks ago…it was amazing! Since then, I’ve made it and it was fantastic! You serve it with your favorite crackers, fresh fruits and some great Ohio white wines. * Recipe below
Brie isn’t the only great appetizer that will leave your guests cheering for more (and not just cheering for the game!) Other hard cheeses like sharp cheddar, Wisconsin White Cheddar and Colby cheese are great additions to your Brie platter. Having various kinds of cheeses and fresh fruits alongside an assortment of crackers is a real stylish setting for your gathering.
Another great snack is chips, served with salsa and guacamole. This is a traditional appetizer for about any football party I’ve ever been to. It’s easy and delicious, especially if the salsa and guacamole are fresh and homemade.
OK. Here’s my last idea for a great evening of watching football or an excuse to get together and eat some great foods. How about some big, fresh shrimp, basted in garlic butter, grilled on the barbeque, then served on a baguette? Another delicacy I indulged in while in California.
I don’t know about you, but I’m starving and can’t wait until Sunday gets here. I hope your party is grand!
Baked Brie with caramelized garlic
Take Brie out and let sit at room temperature for at least 20 minutes
6-8 whole cloves of fresh garlic (depending on the amount of Brie) this is for .67lb
2-3 tablespoons of olive oil-drizzle in dish and over garlic
Put ingredients into an 8x8-baking dish and bake in preheated oven of 350 degrees for about 20 minutes.
When garlic is almost done, put Brie in baking dish, drizzle some olive oil over the top and bake for another 5-7 minutes. It will be very hot at first, but very yummy.
Until next time…
