On Saturday the 24th of August in 2013, Abundant Life Church hosted its 23rd annual Super Saturday Kids Carnival and Family Fun Day, an exclusive outside back-to-school carnival for the surrounding neighborhood communities off east Furnace Branch Road in Glen Burnie, Maryland. It was the biggest outdoor adventure fair this summer in Anne Arundel County. Who knew one establishment could hold so much free fun and fair in one community space. Super Saturday Kids Carnival and Family Fun Day turned into a one stop shop for everything from adventure and challenge such as water games, a 32-foot Rock Wall, a Black Ops Obstacle Course, animal petting zoo, a dunking booth, pony rides, midway games, 18-foot Big Kahuna Water Slide and a 5-in-1 3D Luau Moon Bounce.
The celebration took place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. serving hot dogs, chips, popcorn, sno-balls and ice cream. The sno-balls were flowing from every corner of this community space. The coolest part of it all was everything was free.
Did you know? Abundant Life Church presents this event each year as an act of service and kindness to communities in Anne Arundel County.
During the carnival celebration attendees also enjoyed the air-conditioned church building which housed a hair salon, babysitting service area, face painting, caricature drawings, a “tattoo” parlor, and video games such as Kinect and JustDance. Anne Arundel County Public Schools hosted a Community Connections fair in the basement of the church where over a dozen community organizations offered giveaways and free services. Talk about a caring service to the community whereas, all in attendance were welcomed with smiles from polite volunteers. I witnessed so many happy kids take pictures with costumed characters such as the Baltimore Orioles Mascot bird, a Smurf and Mario brother character. Oh, I can’t forget to mention the best part of the event whereas, kids were given Under Armour bags full of school supplies and Maryland Title I school students received extra pre-packaged school supplies.
Did you know? In 2012, Abundant Life Church partnered with Anne Arundel County Public Schools to give away school supplies and more than 3,500 people attended the event and received giveaways of in excess of 1,300 bags of school supplies.
I can attest from my attendance that the giveaway of school supplies at this 2013 event was probably similar in numbers from 2012 event. Talk about a well-organized community event, the parking was even free whereas, all the neighboring schools and churches provided ample free satellite parking space with connecting shuttles and buses that provided door to door service to the Abundant Life Church fair grounds. There were even free shuttle and bus stops in the surrounding neighborhood communities off E. Furnace Branch Road in Glen Burnie, Maryland. Abundant Life Church and its partners deserve a big kudos for providing such a much need to service to the residents of Anne Arundel County in Maryland.
