On Thursday the 27th of March in 2014, Maryland Volunteer Lawyers Service hosted an exclusive fundraiser for a “March Madness” themed annual benefit on the Southeast Club Level of M&T Bank Stadium in downtown Baltimore, Maryland. It was the biggest fundraiser of this Spring. Who knew one establishment could hold so many Do-gooders in one building. Maryland Volunteer Lawyers Service is a one stop shop for everything “pro bono civil legal services to Marylanders of limited means."
MVLS offers the following programs: Adult Protective Services and Guardianship, Community Development, Debtor Assistance, Foreclosure Prevention, Judicare and JustAdvice. They also have two clinics for Low-Income Taxpayers and Washington County Courthouse Family Law Self-Help.
Did you know? MVLS volunteers spent 14,036 pro bono hours representing clients in FY12. The total value of that time is $4.2 million!
The celebration took place from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. serving passed hors d'oeuvres, wine and beer. General admission tickets were $100 and tickets for law firm associates & non-profit employees were $75. The buffalo wings were flowing from every corner of the building; the sports fan menu of upscale stadium food range from several food stations from a vegetable & dip station, a fried chicken & burger slider station and a shrimp taco station. The three favor buffalo wing station was signature food item of the night with Old Bay wings, hot wings and barbeque wings. There was also a dessert station & coffee station set-up during the last hour of the event.

The coolest part of it all was the silent bidding on 31 sports memorabilia auction items such cool items like Handmade “Shades of the Baltimore Ravens” Quilt, Torrey Smith Signed Shadowbox, 1958 Colts Greatest Game Ever Played Collage and Jacoby Jones Signed Super Bowl 8X10 w/Replica Ticket. The festive musical environment was so relaxing with interactive basketball games and a fun-themed photo booth with cool props.
During the celebration attendees were allowed to watch the NCAA basketball games on multiple large screens as well take behind the-scenes tours of the M&T Bank Stadium. Oh, yeah I should also mention this fundraiser raised approximately $178,000 dollars all in the spirit of providing legal assistance for people in need. Talk about a great charitable cause!
