On Saturday the 10th of August in 2013, Shoprite in Glen Burnie hosted an exclusive community health fair as part of their ‘Super Saturday Wellness Screening.’ It was the biggest health fair of the summer in the Ferndale community of Anne Arundel County in Maryland. Who knew one business could hold so many healthy living tips in one building. The ‘Super Saturday Wellness Screening’ at Shoprite was a one stop shop for everything healthy living from blood pressure checks, vision screenings, hearing checks, nutrition handouts, neurological screenings, behavioral health checks, strength & body composition screenings and drug interaction checks.
The celebration took place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. serving complimentary food samples and beverage refreshments. The healthy food were flowing from every corner of the supermarket whereas, the food samples range from several varieties of fresh fruit and vegetables to freshly carved turkey breast, tomato salsa and pretzels, hummus and chips and the signature beverage for the afternoon was soy milk. The most helpful part of the fair were the blood pressure checks, eye & ear screenings and back pain computerized testing performed just to name a few.

The coolest part of it all was during the wellness screening attendees were allowed to visit a dozen health vendors with a raffle slip for check off from the vendors in hopes of winning ShopRite grocery gift cards donated by ShopRite. Oh, did I mention the first 100 event-goes received a gift bag full of health inspired giveaways.
Shoprite is definitely engaged in community development from what I witnessed at this ‘Super Saturday Wellness Screening’ at ShopRite was a great success. This was a helpful initiative for the Anne Arundel community. I am not a paid endorser for ShopRite. I feel honest in saying ShopRite is one of my favorite placing to shop, “I love supermarkets with eateries and cool dining spaces to enjoy breakfast, lunch or dinner while grocery shopping.”
