Recap: Dallas Mavericks hold off late surge to defeat Orlando Magic 111-105

The Mavericks visit to Orlando Sunday night started in unpleasant fashion as the Magic put them in a 14-point hole behind 8 points by Glen "Big Baby" Davis but the Mavericks went on a 15-point run after Vince Carter and Elton Brand entered the game and the quarter ended with the Mavericks ahead 26-24. Then in a reversal, the Mavericks pulled ahead and led by 13 in the fourth quarter before the Magic charged back and pulled within a basket in the final minute. With a series of timely stops, free throws and all-around solid fundamentals, Dallas was able to prevail 111-105.

Dallas succeeded again with balanced scoring from 7 players in double figures. Shawn Marion had another great all-around game, leading the team in both scoring and rebounding at 20 points and 10 boards plus 4 assists and 3 steals. Darren Collison had 11 points and 9 assists.

Orlando’s Glen “Big Baby” Davis was virtually unstoppable in the Magic’s early run and finished with 24 points on 10-of-16 shooting but wasn’t a big factor late in the game. Jameer Nelson added 20 and Nicola Vucevic had 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Box Score

The Mavericks have won 5 of their last 6 and are arguably the hottest team in the NBA but will have to face the division-leading San Antonio Spurs after a well-deserved mini-vacation next Saturday.
