In a manner that’s become all too familiar for the Dallas Mavericks, the team fought hard and took a 10 point lead over the league-leading Los Angeles Clippers only to fade late and succumb for a 99-93 loss.
The Mavericks, losers of 9 of their last 10 games, have taken the NBA’s elite to the final minutes of the game, even overtime, and still come up empty. Wednesday night yielded the same result as games against the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Miami Heat, as well as recent losses to everyone else they’ve faced other than the Washington Wizards.
Darren Collison scored 22 points on 9-of-15 shooting but as is usually the case, no other Maverick had a solid game from the field and they only shot 43% as a team. The Mavericks were outshot and outrebounded and lost despite the Clippers turning the ball over 21 times.
Chris Paul hit 8-of-13 for 19 points and added 16 assists and two steals, while Matt Barnes hit 7-of-11 from including 5-of-8 from downtown to match Paul’s total. Black Griffin had 15 points and 13 rebounds.
The Mavericks will face the Sacramento Kings Friday Thursday night and have a chance to face a team with a similar record, although that didn’t help them against New Orleans earlier this week.
