TIME magazine (17AUG09) missed a golden opportunity to shed light on the chemicals released in the brain from exercise that actually make your brain function better – that give you energy and directly improve your mood and even your sex drive – they even help you sleep better. And what about your metabolism, and how many more calories can be burned at rest when you have displaced fat with muscle? And oh, by the way, 1 lb of muscle is five times smaller in volume than 1 lb of fat, which means you can (and I’ve seen it many many times) completely reshape your body (yes smaller pants and shirts) and still “weigh” the same. The key to looking at weight is similar to looking at food – it’s not about the quantity is about the quality. You can have two identical sized people who weigh exactly the same, but the key is not how much they weigh, it's the quality of their weight - i.e. what percentage of the body is fat vs muscle.
Couple a sensible eating plan with a functional exercise routine and you'll have the One-Two punch to knockout anything that comes your way. Do not diet: they don't work. Diets are on again/off again fads that will just pack the pounds on again in the future. Change your eating lifestyle, follow a functional exercise routine that works for you and you'll win. Not to mention you'll have more fun, because you'll have more energy and more strength to do things that dieters all dream about. Too bad the editors at TIME magazine didn't take the time to link the two together -- they missed a golden opportunity.
