Let's talk about the fun factor first, then we will discuss clothes (and shoes!). Continuing the trend of having live music on her runway, Rebecca Minkoff tapped in singer Janelle Monáe to perform live for her Spring 2014 show at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. Janelle ofcourse brought the house down, but Rebecca's couture stood out, and managed to stay the front and center of the show, amazing voice of Monáe notwithstanding! For Spring 2014 collection, Minkoff was inspired by influential Latin American women like Bianca Jagger, Frida kahlo and Carolina Issa . The spirit of the collection still retained Minkoff's love of sportswear style. She used traditional Latin American textiles and intricate cutwork, juxtaposing Latin flair with classic American sportswear. The pieces are fresh, feminine and sporty-chic with the signature Minkoff edge. Laser cut leather and tweed motto jackets are playfully mixed with lace, chiffon and flared skirts to create a unique mix of tough girl with a romantic heart.
As always, the shoes and accessories complimented the collection - tasseled peep toes in geometric pattern, knee-high gladiator sandals in bold colorblock and bright satchels shared the limelight along with the clothes. The finale had the audience swooning over Lindsey Wixson sashaying the runway in a voluminous, flowy, floral spring dress.
