The Rebecca Black ‘Friday’ phenomenon lives on. 13-year-old Rebecca Black has cracked the Billboard Hot 100 with her debut single ‘Friday’ Billboard Hot 100 (week ending April 2). ‘Friday’ debuted at No. 72 on the chart.
Though she may have lip synced the tune during her recent Jay Leno appearence, her popularity seems to continue to grow.
When the music video for ‘Friday,’ which was produced by vanity label Ark Music, went viral on YouTube it was only a matter of time before the record company slapped the song up on iTunes. The same song that people were making fun of to start with, are now the same people who are downloading the tune onto their iPods.
Black’s song reached the Billboard Hot 100 based on the high volume of download sales and online streaming. ‘Friday’ debuted at No. 57 on the Billboard Digital chart.
The music video for ‘Friday,’ which started the Rebecca Black phenomenon, continues to get strong play, approaching an amazing 53 million views.
The Billboard Hot 100 chart is released to the general public every Thursday. The chart is made up of a combination of radio airplay, online streaming, and single sales for individual songs.
