Reba McEntire is not dead: Latest death hoax worries fans

Fans of Reba McEntire were sent into a panic Monday when reports spread throughout social media sites that she had died while filming a movie. Many Scottsdale fans referenced a site that appeared to have the report and developing updates, but the website is a joke site and many fans were unaware that the entire thing was a prank. Luckily, while McEntire has not addressed the prank herself, she was actively tweeting Monday and this rumor can be put to rest.

The report by the “Global Associated News” indicated that Reba McEntire died in Austria after she fell in a remote area of the Hahnenkamm mountains. Fans frantically searched media websites looking for confirmation or denials of the news, and a long thread about Reba's supposed death developed at Yahoo answers. What many people do not realize is that most of the celebrity death hoaxes circulating social media sites lately come from the bogus GNA.

Reba has been actively tweeting all week and clearly has not fallen to her death from an Austrian mountain. Monday afternoon she tweeted about a new episode of her show Who Do You Think You Are airing in March, and shared another post about an upcoming race with Shelby. The bottom of the original story by GNA has small print indicating that the story is completely false, but it is rare for fans of the celebrities in question to notice that small section.

Reba McEntire joins legions of other celebrities who have been victim to the very same types of pranks. Over the weekend Cher's death was fabricated and took over Twitter, and Jon Bon Jovi, Charlie Sheen and Will Smith have all had similar stories circulating over the past few months. Luckily, these stories are usually quick to be disputed and the McEntire hoax is no exception.

Fans of Reba's can find many of her past albums or DVDs of her shows at local Barnes & Noble stores including the location on Shea Blvd at the Scottsdale Fiesta Shopping Center or the store on E Greenway Parkway at Kierland Commons.
