Reasons why long distance relationships end

November 10, 2010

Even with the best intentions, some long distance relationships just fizzle out or some end for a reason. If you love your partner and want to have a successful long distance relationship, beware of the top reasons why long distance relationships end. With this knowledge, hopefully all problems leading to a break up can be prevented.

In many long distance relationships, couples do not get the physical contact and attention they crave on a daily basis. When a tempting source of touch comes along while you are in need, it is easy to give in to what is immediate and available rather than holding out for your partner who is many miles away. Because men have a physical need for regular sex, it is easier for them to give in to temptation while women only desire sex with individuals with whom they share an emotional connection. The next time you are out with the guys, drinking and talking to girls at Surf City Billiards, be aware that temptation lurks at every corner. The need for constant physical connection contributes to cheating which is one of the main reasons why long distance relationships end.

While in long distance relationships, individuals still have other responsibilities such as school and work. Busy schedules leads to a lack of communication in long distance relationships. No communication means less bonding which leads to a failure in all relationships, long distance or not. For long distance relationships to work, both parties need to make an effort to communicate with the other. If there is no time to talk, you and your partner should reconsider your priorities. Would you rather go salsa dancing with the girls at El Palomar and go to bed immediately upon returning home or take a few minutes to talk to your partner before and after a night out? Different priorities in a relationship lead to a lack of effort which leads to the end of a relationship, especially with so great a distance between both individuals.

Although there are actions that lead to a long distance relationship's demise, some long distance relationships do not work out solely because couples are not meant to be together, just like regular relationships. A way to prevent the fizzling- out effect is to make a point to talk to each other by calling at least once a day, even to just say goodnight. This stable attention will lead to a loving and strong relationship. If a successful long distance relationship is important to you and your partner, put in the time and make the effort to stay connected.
