The holiday season is a time for fun, family and lots of feasting. Heaping extra helpings on your plate during the holidays also comes with its own set of consequences—nausea, discomfort and heartburn.

Thankfully, there is a remedy for that. Peppermint.

Many people are not aware of the many health benefits of this signature holiday treat. So, if you’re planning on doing a little—or a lot of indulging, be sure to take peppermint along as your sidekick.

Health Benefits

Peppermint is considered a healing herb and is commonly featured on the Dr. Oz Show.

“It increases healthy gastric secretions, relaxes the intestines, soothes spasms, settles the stomach, and alleviates gas,” states Dr. Mao Shing Ni, a 38th-generation doctor of Chinese medicine.

A study conducted by psychologist Bryan Raudenbush, a professor at Wheeling Jesuit University, concluded that peppermint curbs hunger pains and could also aid in weight loss.

During the holiday season, peppermint is a popular ingredient in many signature treats.

Whether you’re snacking on peppermint bark or peppermint brownies, now you have a reason to feel less guilty.
