Even during Indian Market you can find a motel for less than $200 a night in downtown Santa Fe, really. At between $149 and $169 per night, Garrett's Desert Inn is a bargain during Indian Market (much less off season).
This downtown, spacious, motel is as well located as they come. Just a block or two from both The Plaza and Canyon Road, you won't have to worry about renting a car for your visit.
Garrett's is dated, yes but it is comfortable and convenient. The motel, with flower-laden balconies, surrounds a large parking lot and has rooftop views of downtown adobe architecture. Parking was $8 per night during our Indian Market stay. Rooms ranged from King bedded rooms to mini-suites. The suites had refrigerators and microwaves. The double Queens did not. So you'll have to make your requests and ask questions when you make your reservation.
On hot afternoons the sparkling pool was a real plus and the room A/C was quiet.
Now that the Santa Fe Bite restaurant has opened adjacent to Garrett's, it has become my choice for price and convenience. Coffee is always available in the lobby, but the breakfasts at The Bite are fantastic. Huevos Rancheros anyone?
Be sure and check Internet prices for Garretts and make your reservations for events like Indian Market way in advance.
Another hotel that we have not reviewed is the Sage Inn. We understand that the pricing is even better than Garrett's. The Sage Inn is closer to the Railyard than it is to downtown yet it is considered one of those handy central motels. The Sage Inn makes up for their location by providing a "Sage Coach" shuttle service.
