Wednesday, Reason.tv released an hour-long video with John Mackey, co-founder and CEO of Whole Foods Market Inc discussing his libertarian approach to business and life with Reason magazine's Editor-in-Chief Matt Welch and Reason Online Editor Nick Gillespie.
In the short version of the interview, called "John Mackey's Conscious Capitalism," Mackey discussed his concept of healthcare reform as he outlined it in a Wall Street Journal op-ed in August. That article caused a nationwide uproar with the political left calling for a boycott of his Whole Food grocery stores while his supporters, notably the libertarian community, supported a counter "buycot." That controversy was covered in an Examiner opinion column, "Whole Foods: boycott or buycott?"
Mackey also notes in the interview that he voted for Bob Barr, the Libertarian Party candidate, in 2008.
In the hour-long version of the video Mackey expands on his healthcare ideas and talks about corporate social responsibility, why government intervention doesn't work, and what he means when he calls himself a "Conscious Capitalist."
