Reaper of the Wilds is one of the newest "Theros" spoilers revealed today Sept. 9, 2013 from Wizards of the Coast's upcoming expert "Magic: The Gathering" expansion set in an update to the image gallery on www.DailyMTG.com. This powerful rare Golgari creature can greatly improve your card quality over the course of a long and grinding game.
Reaper of the Wilds - 2BG
Creature - Gorgon (Rare)
Whenever another creature dies, scry 1.
(Look at the top card of your library. You may put that card on the bottom of your library.)
B: Reaper of the Wilds gains deathtouch until end of turn.
1G: Reaper of the Wilds gains hexproof until end of turn.
Reaper of the Wilds has several great things going for it. Every time another creature dies you'll get to scry one. It doesn't matter if you've used a Hero's Downfall or Gaze of Granite to destroy your opponent's threat, sacrificed Festering Newt to Bubbling Cauldron, or your Ashen Rider dies in combat: You'll get to sift through your deck one card at a time, potentially transforming dead land draws into game winning business spells. The longer Reaper of the Wilds stays on the battlefield, the more cards you're likely to see with scry thanks to its two other abilities.
Reaper of the Wilds can gain deathtouch, allowing it to take down even the biggest threats or blockers your opponent puts in its path. With just two mana you'll be able to thwart your adversary from bouncing Reaper of the Wilds with Voyage's End or exiling it with Chained to the Rocks thanks to hexproof.
Reaper of the Wilds goes great alongside Jarad, Golgari Lichlord and Dark Prophecy. And because it's a Gorgon, Reaper of the Wilds also makes a fantastic addition to any deck seeking to abuse Hythonia the Cruel.
How will you use Reaper of the Wilds?
