What do Dr. Andy Baldwin, Ryan Sutter and Ethan Zohn have in common? Beside the fact that they're past reality television stars, all three will be lining up for the start of the ING New York City Marathon on November 7.
Not only will they find out who's the fittest and the fastest, but who can raise the most money for their chosen charity.
"We’re going head to head and there’s going to be a donation wager on it as well," said Zohn in an interview two weeks ago. "We haven’t figured out the final terms yet."
At the time, Zohn thought he was only competing with Sutter. Now Baldwin has the chance to get in on the action.
"I'm looking forward to battling it out with Ethan and Ryan in NYC," Baldwin said in an email earlier today. "I respect those guys a lot. Hopefully we can support each others' causes."
"The Bachelor" star was just named the official ambassador for the ING Run for Something Better program, a charity that raises money to fight childhood obesity. Anyone who donates at least $10 gets a pair of orange shoe laces.
"I'm going to get Ethan and Ryan some ING Orange Laces to wear out on the course! Let the friendly trash talking begin," said Baldwin, who has already donated to both Zohn's and Sutter's charities.
Baldwin should have no problem in New York. He's run multiple endurance events including several Ironman triathlons, the famed 56 mile Comrades Marathon in South Africa and the Bank of America Chicago Marathon just two weeks ago.
"The Bachelorette's" Sutter will give Baldwin a run for the money. He's nearing the end of his First Descents' 10.10.10 Challenge. Over the past year he's completed a number of endurance events in an effort to get 10,000 people to give $10 in honor of First Descents' 10th year anniversary.
First Descents helps young adults with cancer experience the great outdoors through kayaking, rock climbing and other adventure sports.
Zohn, who won "Survivor" in 2002, has never run a marathon before. He is, however, an ex-professional soccer player and has dribbled a soccer ball 550 miles from Boston to Washington, D.C., so 26.2 miles shouldn't be a problem.
Zohn will be running for Grassroot Soccer, a charity he created to help use soccer to raise money for people fighting HIV and AIDS in Africa. Zohn was going to run New York for Grassroot Soccer last year, but was sidelined after being diagnosed with a rare form of Hodgkin's Lymphoma.
"When I was supposed to run last year and I couldn’t, he (Sutter) stepped in for me, which was really nice of him, and he raised money for Grassroot Soccer," Zohn added. Zohn's cancer is now in remission.
"The Bachelor" season 9 star Prince Lorenzo Borghese will also be running with Grassroot Soccer according to Zohn.
When it comes to raising money for charity, a bit of healthy competition is always a good thing. Check the following links to help support Baldwin, Sutter and Zohn when they run the ING New York City Marathon on November 7.
