Reality and illusion coincide in J.D. Robb's 'Celebrity in Death'

Lieutenant Eve Dallas sees her real life reflected in the illusionary world of Hollywood movies in Celebrity in Death, the newest addition to the J.D. Robb In Death novels. This 43rd title in the series puts  Eve and Detective Delia Peabody on a confrontation course with the actors who portray them in The Icove Agenda, a film based on the case detailed in Robb's 2005 novel Origin in Death.

A Nov. 21, 2011 review in Publishers Weekly reveals that Eve finds the body of K.T. Harris in a roof-top pool at the home of famous Hollywood director Mason Roundtree. The much disliked 28-year-old actress had played the role of Peabody in the film.

Eve, who is at Roundtree’s Park Avenue townhouse with Peabody, Nadine Furst and Roarke for a party celebrating The Icove Agenda, had witnessed Harris’s drunken outburst earlier that night and realizes that the young woman had many enemies. One of these is Marlo Durn, who portrays Eve in the film and who is remarkably similar to her in appearance.

"We've got a corpse that looks like one of the investigators, a houseful of Hollywood and a media machine that's going to eat it like gooey chocolate." That is the summary of the case Eve provides as she and her team begin yet another search for a murderer.

Putnam cites Feb. 21, 2012 as the U.S. release date for Celebrity in Death. The novel follows New York to Dallas, the previous full length In Death novel, and the novella “Chaos in Death,” both of which were released in September 2011.
