Real Salt Lake's landmark MLS residence academy at Grande Sports in Arizona marks a turning point in youth soccer development in the United States. Launched this August under the direction of former U.S. Men's National Team and LA Galaxy defender Greg Vanney, the academy is currently home to 20 U-16 and U-18 players and in the future could expand to as many as 80 players in competing in four different age groups. Expansion team Vancouver Whitecaps will enter MLS with their residence academy in 2011 and FC Dallas, Chicago Fire, and the New York Red Bulls each have one in planning.
