The second edition of the International Champions Cup is upon us. One of the most highly anticipated matches will be played on July 29 at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, Texas. The match will be between Spaniard giants Real Madrid and Italian club team AS Roma.
Roma has recently come into second place in its domestic league in Italy and has one of the best squads it has ever had in its history. Losing to Juventus FC, who broke the tied record for having the highest score in a season in any European soccer league, Roma is coming to win a trophy. Roma also lost to Lazio in the Coppa Italia. So the hunger for Roma is strong.
Real Madrid comes to the second edition of the International Champions Cup as the defending champion. The Spanish club won this tournament last year by beating English club Chelsea in the finals. Also, Real Madrid won the Copa Del Rey soccer tournament in Spain that encompasses teams from different divisions, and the most prestigious title of all, the UEFA Champions Cup. These accomplishments clearly mark Real Madrid as the favorite.
On the other hand, AS Roma has the talent to beat Real Madrid. Veteran Francesco Totti will be fighting with Ivory Coast forward Gervinho and Mattia Destro. In the midfield, you have Dutch playmaker Kevin Strootman who is accompanied by Bosnian star Miralem Pjanic. There are many excellent players on the Roma squad so Real Madrid will have to play very hard in order to defend their title.
As for Real Madrid, their squad is packed as well. They have the best player in the world with Portuguese forward Cristiano Ronaldo and the most expensive player as well with Welsh forward Gareth Bale, who happens to be a top-playing striker. Also included in the roster is one of the best goalkeepers Iker Casillas, Potuguese defender Pepe, defender Sergio Ramos and French forward Karim Benzema. The list for Real Madrid goes on and on. This is why Real Madrid is favored to win the game.
Another factor to consider is the fact that Real Madrid has had more success on the international level than Roma. Real Madrid has 10 UEFA Champions League titles. That is more than any other club in Europe. Their status internationally is higher that Roma’s. However, in a tournament like the International Champions Cup held in the United States, anything could happen. All of the teams invited are top notch. Anyone could take the cake in the end.
