'Real Housewives' Kyle Richards loses weight with sugar-free low carb diet

We've all heard that when you turn 40, it gets more difficult to stay slim. But "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" Kyle Richards, who will turn 45 on Jan. 11, is defying the odds by achieving her weight loss goal, she told Life & Style magazine on Jan. 9.

"I eat almost no sugar," revealed Kyle, who has four children and says she has always battled with her weight. But by cutting out sugar and reducing starchy carbohydrates, she finally won her war.

“I've lost about seven pounds since last season," she said proudly.

"I’m only 5-foot-2, with big boobs and a butt, so it shows!" Kyle added. However, now that she's shed the weight, Kyle has improved her body image.

"I feel confident about my body now. I don’t hide behind a towel in a bathing suit," she added.

What's the secret behind Kyle's success? Diet expert Jorge Cruise explained it.

"The key to weight loss is keeping insulin low by avoiding hidden sugars," said Jorge, author of "The 100: Count ONLY Sugar Calories and Lose Up to 18 Lbs. in 2 Weeks."

To follow his plan, dieters learn to count sugar calories only, eating a maximum of 100 units per day. To calculate sugar calories, multiply the grams of carbohydrates in a food item by four.

“You only count sugar on this plan — no need to track protein or fat — and can lose up to 18 pounds in two weeks!” added Jorge.

The fitness guru also talked with the Huffington Post on Jan. 9 about his other new diet book: "Happy Hormones, Slim Belly: Over 40? Lose 7 lbs. the First Week, and Then 2 lbs. Weekly —Guaranteed." Designed specifically for women over 40, Jorge says that it caters to the changes in women's hormones by providing them with more carbohydrates in a way that facilitates weight loss.
