The search on for the next Bahamian gospel superstar now that Bahamian music and media prodigy Vincent ‘V-Mac’ McDonald of Elevation Records and Extreme Youth TV is launching 242Untapped. The reality television show is similar to BET’s Sunday’s Best or a gospel version of Fox’s American Idol.
The show is set to air on January 26th, 2013 at 7:30pm in The Bahamas with video uploads later being circulated on www.242untapped.com, the show’s Youtube channel and www.thebahamasweekly.com
“We have already generated a whole lot of buzz,” said creator, executive producer and host, V-Mac. “For the first season of 242Untapped auditions were held in Nassau and Freeport. There was a whole lot a talent that came through but there were lot of ‘are you for real?’ moments that occurred as well. Overall, we sought what we accomplished to do in giving people the opportunity of a lifetime to pursue their dreams.”
The winner of 242Untapped will receive a national recording contract, a music video produced by one of The Bahamas’ top music video producers, and a $5,000 cash prize.
This season’s judges include praise and worship leader/recording Nadene Moss, one of the lead vocalists on Mt. Tabor’s Full Gospel Baptist album which features Bishop Neil Ellis, Bishop Paul S. Morton and former Bahamen member, Nehemiah Hield. Providing a lot of raw and uncut laughs is Jonathon Farrington, a former BTC spokes model, whose single I’m Gonna Wait has been sitting comfortably in the Top 10 local gospel countdowns since autumn 2012. Rounding out the panel is Christopher Roberts, a respected pioneer on the Bahamian gospel scene who is behind several hits that have crossed over into the international arena.
V-Mac told media that 242Untapped will provide a platform to usher in a new generation of gospel talent.
“This groundbreaking competition differs from other competitions because it will serve as a bridge linking industry personnel with undiscovered talent,” he said. “These industry insiders include the Marlin Awards, record labels, television networks, and radio networks both locally and internationally. This is the chance for the nation to be exposed to talent that comes from our waters. Through 242Untapped, The Bahamas will know that all of the new and seasoned members of the gospel music industry are united and being used by God to spread the Gospel to the world.”
