The class begins at 7:30 pm, followed by live performance by Amika Dance Company, the one-of-a-kind dance group under Silvia's direction. Dynamix, one of the best salsa teams in DC will also be performing at the event. With DJ-dola Yorubaontwo spinning hot Latin Tunes, the event promises to capture the salsa souls of experts and novice dancers alike.

The event is free to attend. It will mark the beginning of Silvia's grand fundraising campaign, an effort to raise $60,000 in 60 days and open the first one-of-a-kind Latin Dance studio where Silvia will host the greatest social parties and most fun classes in the area.

Currently, Silvia is a small business owner and dance instructor/performer. Her dance career goes back decades. An artist to the core, she earned an undergraduate degree in Graphics and Web Design and an M.A. in Film and Video. But dance is the through line, and thousands of students agree that she’s got something to say on the dance floor with Bachata, Merengue, and of course, Salsa. Her current dance studio is bursting at the seams, proud of its meteoric growth without a dollar of paid advertising. "Working as a producer at NASA TV for 10 years never replaced my infinite love for dance. After dancing and performing my entire life, seeing people walk out of my dance studio with a huge smile on their face is the biggest reward for me. I feel like I am making a difference by bringing joy to the community. Now that I've outgrown my basement studio, I need the community’s support so I can bring the Salsa With Silvia experience to more people of all ages," Silvia notes.

With a spectacular performance group, explosive student growth, and an international YouTube following, Salsa with Silvia is thinking big. That’s why the world-famous salsa dancer, teacher, and entrepreneur is lighting up the night with a novel IndieGoGo fundraising campaign, set to launch on Spetember 17th at Guapo’s.

The event coincides with Hispanic Heritage Month. Silvia’s IndieGoGo fundraising campaign is an effort to capture the enthusiasm and excitement of the thousands of people who’ve studied with Silvia and her expert instructors. Her goal is to raise funds and open a new, larger dance studio, capable of teaching the many who want to learn to feel the beat beneath their feet! Raised funds will help cover the lease for a commercial space for one year while she renovates and “kickstarts” a new location.

What's in it to you? Once the campaign is live on IndieGoGo on September 17th, 2014, look at your awards from online training to class discounts and private salsa parties. Please help Silvia open her dream studio and bring the DC community together!
