Reading Rainbow is an award-winning franchise that promoted reading first through a television show and, more recently, an interactive app for kids! The Reading Rainbow App inspires a love of reading in children so they can “Go Anywhere, By Anything”, just as the award-winning TV show did for 30 years on PBS! Free to try, the Reading Rainbow App is available on the iPad and Kindle Fire.

To promote the new app, Reading Rainbow is showcasing videos of the show’s long-time host, LeVar Burton, reading selected stories to children. It’s officially Spring, and LeVar Burton and Reading Rainbow want to celebrate with a special Story Time just for you: The Tortoise and the Hare, the classic Aesop fable, adapted and illustrated by Janet Stevens, and read by LeVar Burton.

Spring is also a time of year when many young children try team sports for the first time, and this tale of friendship, sportsmanship, and determination is the perfect book to inspire and encourage young and old alike! J.R.R. Tolkien said “It’s not the strength of the body that counts, but the strength of the spirit.” Books such as The Tortoise and the Hare encourage children to develop both strength AND spirit, as well as kindness, compassion, and friendship.

Come sit down with LeVar Burton and Reading Rainbow, let’s “take a look, it’s in a book”. When the story is over we’ll put on some tennis shoes, hop outside, and see all the beauty of Spring. But you don’t have to take our word for it!
