Teens these days are all very different. Some are happy and ambitious, others are self-conscious and depressed. Some are bookworms, others are movie buffs. Some do their hair and make-up, others cut themselves with razors leaving scars for life.
There is no sure way to tell how a child will turn out as a teen, or how a teen will turn out as an adult, but there are things people can do to help enrich their lives. Reading is a major a part of this process, but more importantly, what you read.
Starting as a young child, reading books that help motivate, give a positive "can-do" attitude, and promote self-esteem can heavily determine teenager's views of themselves. Helping sculpt a child's personality at a young age is one of the most detrimental things necessary; reading can make this process a little easier.
There are lots of books out there that help children and teens alike have a different outlook on themselves, their friends, their family, and even the world! Reading can not only open one's mind, but change it as well. Books, movies, TV shows, music, and all media alike are very powerful tools. These tools should not be limited to just one, nor should the genre.
Horror, romance, fiction, non-fiction, thriller, mystery, suspense, reality, coming-of-age, these are all important genres for anybody. Depending on someone's personality they could like one more than another. But did you know what genre you frequently read can also determine your personality?
That's not to say that everyone who reads horror is a serial killer inside, or everyone who enjoys a good romance is frilly and lustful. But the energy that you focus on, that you put out there, all comes back to you in one way or another and can deeply affect views and personalities.
A few great-start books to read to kids can be found everywhere! As well as well-rounded books for teens!
There is a big world all around you... how will you view it?
