In 2013, it looks as if fantasy and action were the winners in the box office category. Whether it was comic book based movies such as "Thor: The Dark World", " The Wolverine" or "Iron Man 3", it appears that many people are using movies to connect with their famous comic book heroes especially those from the Marvel Universe.

Other box office hits include movies based on books. "Hunger Games: Catching Fire" broke the top opening weekend sales of all movies in 2013 with $158,074,286 opening and $391,124,000 overall. And "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" made approximately $190,304,000.
