The psychology of honor killing is a topic that is slowly infiltrating the Western World coming largely from the East. Honor killings are about honor of the family. Honor of the family to these cultures is as important as life and love itself. Family honor can be important in many situations but it is often used against females and relates to sexual activity or perceived sexual activity and many times it is often a reaction to the introduction of Western living.
Montreal Family: The Shafia Honor Killing Trial
The results came in the Shafia family received 25 years for the part in the plot to murder the girls and Rona Amir.

Batshaw is now reassessing the situation to see how they could have done things differently and to consider honor killings which is so new to Canada. A provincial registry now put into effect to help identify cases and get help quicker.
Iman Kahil Tabatabai says the Shafias’ never came to his mosque in Montreal for religious teachings. If Mohammad had done so he would be instructed to find another solution to his family problems. The Iman says, “honor killings are not part of Islam but is may be cultural in some parts or some tribal custom but not Islam.”
The Afghani community says there was no real evidence that the Shafias’ actually murdered,all the court had were tapes of family members talking but nothing as specific as if they murdered the girls or not.
Victoria Jahesh of the Afghan Women's Centre in Montreal - says they do what they can to help these families find better ways to integrate into Canadian society. New immigrants need help to understand we don’t do these things in Canada.
The Afghani community of Montreal is afraid that there will be a backlash against all Muslims for that this family has done.
The Afghan Embassy denounces honor killings stating it is a heinous crime and not a Muslim or Afghani practice.
The Canadian Government is preparing an investigation into honor killings in Canada.
