Reach Garland begins

What happens when godly people began to fervently pray? Well, in the case of the families that meet together to worship at Winters Park and Autumn Leaves, it is more than they could have ever asked or imagined.

David Moore, pastor of these experienced saints, challenged them to pray for the apartment complex behind their building. They prayed for the people living there to know God and to experience His love. They prayed for a bold vision of how to reach the people living there despite language and cultural barriers. They prayed for a way to be the hands and feet of Jesus.

And God does not disappoint.

Reach Garland was born on a hot day in June when David and Lori Moore, along with several friends, planned to feed lunch to the residents of an apartment complex in Garland. It was a simple plan. They would serve lunch and let the people know that they were Christians. Period. Not from a specific church or from a certain denomination, just Christians.

The apartment complex’s manager warmed immediately to the idea and welcomed this group that wanted to make her complex a better place to live. The residents showed up in droves! Children, teenagers, parents and grandparents flocked to free food in a friendly, safe atmosphere.

Since that day, David and Lori with their ever growing number of supporters have continued to lavish love on this apartment complex. They held a trunk or treat for the children at Halloween. They brought in an after school program that teaches children the basics of faith. At Christmas, they brought presents for parents to shop from, free of charge. And all the while, they bring a meal once a month to allow the residents to gather together and experience community. Every single food item and gift has either been donated or sponsored.

The residents are coming to know Jesus, first through free hot dogs or pizza, and then through these people that come.

For the many who have accepted Christ at the apartment complex, their new church home is at Winters Park; worshipping with these sometimes forgotten treasures who prayed them into the kingdom.

David dreams of  Reach Garland expanding across our city and the metroplex. He is always looking for ready hands and willing hearts. Would you like to join in?
